Sebastien Carpentier is a bioscience engineer specialised in agriculture and gene biotechnology. His team focuses on phenotyping the biodiversity of fruit crops by integrating abiotic stress physiology at plant level with omics technology at cell level. He is currently team leader at the Consultative Group of International Agricultural Research for the banana characterization and evaluation program at CIAT-Bioversity International. He is managing the KULeuven Mass Spectrometry facility SYBIOMA since 2011. By characterising the genomes, by evaluating the traits of genotypes preserved in gene banks and by validating their suitability for certain crucial agro-eco zones on field; his research is crucial for prebreeding programs and distributing the crop’s gene pool.
